for my birthday i got keri smith's box set which includes the following books: 'mess', 'this is not a book', 'wreck this journal'.
the set is perfect, it's brand new, each page is perfect, it smells new, it feels new, looks perfect all neatly bundled sitting on the table where i can i admire it's perfection. starting to get the hint.... my 'perfectionist' is in her glory.
i took the set away for the weekend, excited by all the experiments [creative destructions] i was reading about, flipping through the pages ever so carefully, still in awe of it perfectness and then i found this on the beach ...
clay!
it sqwished through my fingers, i could sqeeze it, it felt cold and crunchy at first then it softened up and became smooth. then this happened!!!!
my 'perfectionist' was not thrilled.. hee hee. the instructions for this experiment: 'smear something with your hands purely for the tactile sensation'. and so i did! i made a mess in my 'mess' book and it felt fantastic!!!!
i'm so glad i was aware of the 'tug-of-war' going on between perfection and creative destruction, it was very interesting. i'm also grateful for the subtle shifts in mindset that are also taking place since letting go a little of some restrictive thinking. and of course making more of a mess and wrecking my journal.... :-)
it's kind of like expanding my comfort zone rather than stepping out of it......
